A Wedding in Rome

As wedding photographers and videographers, we’re always excited by the prospect of capturing weddings in far-away places. Residenza Di Rocca Romana, nestled in the heart of Italy, only an hour north of Rome, offers a traditional Italian venue set within a stunning landscape of gorgeous fields with the Lake Bracciano a few miles away (perfect when using the drone), making it an ideal destination wedding venue.

Residenza Di Rocca Romana boasts a rich history, with its origins tracing back to a medieval era. The restored stone buildings, terracotta roofs, and lush olive groves create an authentic Italian countryside ambiance that’s just perfect for a wedding.

We were thrilled when Rosie and Jarred got in touch asking us to capture their wedding. A total of 60 guests, it was quite a large number considering we were going abroad. We’d previously photographed their engagement shoot at the Confetti Fields, and have long been friends with the couple – so it was extra special to be there on their wedding day.

Their guests arrived the day before, with everyone spending time chilling around the pool before a barbeque in the evening – featuring some of the best bread we’ve ever eaten. There were a couple of informal speeches, and then it was time for an early night.

Rosie got ready with her bridesmaids in one of the rooms near the entrance of the estate, while Jarred spent the morning with his best men.

They’d opted for a first look by the lake, so we all piled into our hired Fiat 500 (picture it: Rosie, Jarred and Dean are all over 6 foot; with 5 foot 3 Becky in the driving seat it was ridiculous!) to do the grand reveal, which was gorgeous and emotional in equal measure.

We then drove back to the venue where all their guests were seated, in readiness for the ceremony. They chose to have Jarred’s cousin lead the ceremony, which meant it was even more personal and touching.

Sadly their confetti didn’t arrive due to a mix up, so everyone threw rice instead – an ancient tradition that did actually work. After the formal photos we were treated to a delicious meal and excellent speeches. Keen dancers, the evening was split into sections, with a salsa hour, afro-beats hour, a ceilidh and then general disco, before they cut the cake and had sparklers to close the night.

It was such a dreamy day; we all met for breakfast again the next morning and reflected on the best bits, before we all departed – we continued into Rome for a few days as it was our first time in Italy.

Choosing a destination wedding takes a lot of organising and planning. Residenza Di Rocca Romana was the perfect venue, with the owners taking care of so much. If you’re considering a wedding in Rome, or nearby, this could be a great choice.

As a husband-and-wife team providing both wedding photography and wedding videography for destination weddings, we only need one room, resulting in considerable cost savings. With plenty of prior experience at destination weddings having already worked in Poland and Jamaica, and Greece upcoming, we’ve developed a streamlined and stress-free approach to destination weddings.
