As a Midlands-based photographer and videographer duo, we’re lucky enough to go all over the area (and beyond!) for your gorgeous weddings. Travelling a little north, in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, is The Ashes Barns. A gorgeous venue that’s been genuinely, thoughtfully designed to host beautiful weddings, big and small.
From bright and airy accommodation for getting ready, gorgeous rustic but light barns for the ceremony and party, fabulous grounds and even multiple lakes! It’s set up a bit of a hill, meaning the views are endless. Especially if we’re able to fly the drone!
For the history buffs, The Ashes Barns is a Grade II* listed family-run venue, set on a 50-acre estate with views that stretch over rolling hills and tranquil lakes. The barns themselves date back to the 17th century, meticulously restored to retain their original stone walls and oak beams.
Today, The Ashes Barns is managed by Ensarb Ltd, a husband-and-wife team renowned for creating some of Staffordshire’s most sought-after wedding venues, including Foxtail Barns, The Mill Barns (where we visit in 2025), Pendrell Hall, Hanbury Barns and Whistle Barns.
We visited The Ashes Barns in May for Ros and Laura’s big day. The sun shone all day, everyone’s mood was pure joy, there was a brass quartet, side-splitting speeches and epic dancing. Ros started to cry as they said their vows, and she didn’t really stop all day!
As an Ashes Barns wedding photographer and videographer couple, we’re all about chasing light and the best angles. The West Barn, where ceremonies are held, offers dramatic, high ceilings and expansive windows that flood the space with natural light. The courtyard, with its cobblestone pathways and lush greenery, provides fabulous opportunities for intimate portraits, candid moments and the all-important confetti shot.
The landscaped gardens and private lake act as the perfect backdrop for couple photos, especially at golden hour. The sweeping driveway is a great spot too, especially for video.
Wedding couples have the entire venue to themselves, and the team at The Ashes Barns are super friendly and great to work with, allowing photographers and videographers like us to work our magic without logistical worries.
We were lucky enough to have Amy from Amy McLintock Photography second shoot for Becky too, which made the day even more enjoyable and meant there were more unforgettable moments captured.
