Cara and Tom at Priston Mill – I don’t even know where to begin with this wedding!
For so many reasons, both professionally and personally, I was overjoyed to capture this wedding.
Priston Mill is absolutely gorgeous, and so well curated as a wedding venue. There are two locations to choose from: Tythe Barn (where this wedding was) and the Watermill. Set within the Duchy of Cornwall’s Newton Park Estate, just on the outskirts of Bath, Priston Mill is hidden down a long, winding track, with incredible views across the valley. You truly feel as though you’re in the middle of nowhere and have the whole world to yourself.
I’ve known Cara and Tom since September 2013, when we all worked at House of Fraser, Bristol, together. Cara and I were both on the fast fashion concession while Tom worked for Superdry. We were often on shifts together, all working full-time there, and got on so well.
Throwback to early November of 2013, after a night out, Cara confessed that her and Tom had started seeing each other, and she’d been invited to the wedding reception of his brother in Somerset. I then sat by said brother during the wedding breakfast of Cara and Tom – it was amazing to come full circle! I was the first person lucky enough to know about the pair, and to see them together now, 11 years later, finally tying the knot was just the most special thing.
They’ve travelled the world together, been to Glastonbury more times than I think is fair, and are a true match made in heaven.
Their Priston Mill wedding was a total reflection of them both: relaxed, colourful and very fun. Cara wore an absolutely stunning long-sleeve, bohemian dress with white Doc Martens, while Tom donned a very suave green tweed suit. They weren’t very comfortable in front of the camera – not that you’d ever know! They still humoured me to have couple photos, and I think they’re some of the best I’ve taken. Even if you’re nervous or uncomfortable in front of a camera, I’m 99% certain I’ll be able to get the best out of you – just by being yourselves and having fun.
I thought Tom might be emotional, but boy – he could barely watch Cara coming down the aisle, it was so beautiful. Tom’s mum gave a reading during the ceremony, before we went outside for confetti and photos.
Despite getting married in early March, we were blessed with gorgeous sunshine all day, and with daffodils lining the driveway, it was the perfect spring wedding.
The grounds of Priston Mill are extensive, with a stream, play area (with a zip wire!!), multiple fields, a long sweeping driveway and different textures of walls, making it a photographer’s paradise. While we were lucky to have good weather, there are plenty of indoor spaces for photo opportunities too, if it’s pouring all day.
The food was delicious, and again, given that we were in March, there were roaring fires in the barn, which were super cosy and welcoming as the cool night kicked in.
The evening party was fabulous; Cara and Tom opted to have their friends’ band, Razamo, play, who are a gypsy jazz duo and really knew how to get the crowd going. Again, the Tythe Barn provided the perfect backdrop for dancing.
We’d love to go back to Priston Mill, and feel so honoured to have captured Cara and Tom’s journey to the rest of their lives together.
