Mud Dock in Bristol, an absolute hidden gem for those wanting to get married right in the heart of Bristol city centre, overlooking the harbour. An iconic bike shop, it’s an old industrial building that’s truly embracing it’s rugged roots, with exposed bricks, big windows and a terrace overlooking the city and docks.
The 23rd July 2022 wasn’t your typical wedding. Gina and Tom chose to have a Quaker wedding ceremony at Horfield Quaker Meeting House on Gloucester Road thanks to Tom’s family roots. The brief was: bold, colourful and relaxed. And boy did they deliver!
The Journey of The Big Day
We started the day with Gina at her parent’s house with the most incredible views looking out to sea. Gina opted for a tea-length lace wedding dress with red shoes and red handbag, and together with her gorgeous blonde hair, she looked absolutely incredible. Her whole family got ready together, including all bridesmaids in varying shades of red, before being picked up by a double-decker red vintage bus! Before leaving, we had confetti canons; it was all so exciting and colourful!
Next we moved to the Quaker Meeting House in Horfield for the ceremony. Never having photographed a Quaker ceremony before, we weren’t sure what to expect, but goodness me did it take our breath away.
No photos were allowed during the ceremony; members of the congregation were able to stand up and share their stories of the couple which was incredibly emotional. After the ceremony, we could stage a few photos before everyone in attendance signed the marriage certificate.
After this the vintage bus was back ready to take all guests down to Mud Dock for the wedding breakfast and to continue the merriment. We held a confetti walk underneath, before going for couple photos around the iconic harbourside. The colours of Gina’s shoes and handbag stood out brilliantly against the water, whilst blending seamlessly with the bright houses in the distance.
Mud Dock has a great outdoor terrace upstairs, perfect for drinks and catching up with your loved ones.
There’s also a smaller terrace overlooking the docs, which was the perfect space and backdrop for the formal family photographs.
No wedding is complete without the wedding breakfast and speeches, and they delivered aplenty! Both Gina and Tom gave heartfelt speeches – it’s always nice to see the bride give a speech too.
Something really special took place at this Mud Dock wedding – we were treated to a private boat cruise along the river! Cue epic party tunes, some questionable Titanic poses and an all round good time (even though it started to rain) – it made for some really fun photos and precious memories.
Finally onto the dancing, and they’d hired a fabulous band to take us into the evening. The dancefloor was packed all evening, and you could really feel the energy from the guests, lit by the gorgeous circular window on the side.
We had such a brilliant time at Mud Dock, and would so love to go back.
