Over Barn definitely stands out from the crowd: it’s a working farm situated right next to an airstrip for microlight planes. There are stunning views stretching across the little runway, quirky backgrounds courtesy of the farm buildings, and farm animals over at Over Farm across the field.
Tucked away in the idyllic countryside of Gloucestershire, Over Barn is a restored 19th century grain barn, laid out around a lovely courtyard, perfect for photos and welcome drinks.
Nikki and Rob chose to hold their marriage here, with all their family and friends in tow. Becky had previously met them both for an engagement shoot in Pittville Park in Cheltenham the previous year, so it felt really natural hanging out with them on their wedding day too!
Nikki got ready in her family home in Cheltenham, giving us time to capture the dress, outfit details and general buzz of the wedding morning, and it was so relaxed! The sun was shining, pizza was served and it was just a lovely atmosphere. Nikki’s dress was a gorgeous art-deco inspired full-length gown which was just beautiful.
Transport was definitely a feature for this wedding: Nikki arrived in a vintage Rolls Royce, while Rob opted for one of the coolest cars we’ve seen: a vintage American Sheriff car, complete with the Sheriff himself! Proper swag and we’re here for it!
The wedding itself was really special, and we loved every minute of the ceremony. Even when we had to halt proceedings to allow a tractor to drive past as it was so noisy – the joys of being on a working farm!
The theme was Star Wars, with homemade touches throughout, from the table settings with mini diaramas from the films, to quotes across the venue. The whole day was everything Nikki and Rob love, and was so personal!
Skittles were a priority for Nikki and Rob (and Over Barn has a skittle alley; this was one of the main reasons they chose this venue!) as Nikki’s late father was part of a skittles club, so it was really important they could honour him with a few games of skittles.
While posing for photos was a concern for both Nikki and Rob, you’d never have known from looking back through them – so cool, so relaxed, and so very much in love.
The speeches were incredibly emotional, with Rob telling the story of how he and Nikki met (she’d been stood up by someone else, only to find Rob ready and waiting!) and how important a role Nikki has played in supporting Rob while they’re been together. Nikki’s brother covered the traditional Father of the Bride speech, and there was barely a dry eye in sight. While we’re there to capture all the emotions and events of the day, there are some moments that should remain private, and so we always try to be super sensitive around situations like these.
Later, we went back out for more couple photos along the runway. Sadly we weren’t treated to golden hour, but the photos still came out beautifully!
Here are some kind words from them both:
“Becky and Dean at Winter Bennett Weddings are a 100% fantastic team and definitely worth choosing to capture your big day or special moment. Contact and communication is always swift and positive. No question is a silly question – and I should know as I am sure I asked plenty of them! As a team they work amazingly together and were so accommodating and unobtrusive at our event. Many of our guests commented on how lovely they were. The quality of images and video provided was too notch – beautiful romantic style images and very moving videos. If you are looking for a super helpful, understanding and positive team to capture your special moments then look no further than Winter Bennett Weddings.”
